Jeep® is daring forward with a plan to become the world’s leading electric SUV brand. Preserving power and capability while lessening emissions is at the forefront of the Jeep brand’s electrification movement. The plan is that at least 50% of the brand’s U.S. sales will be fully battery electric vehicles (BEV) by 2030.
“This is a forward-thinking strategy to help ensure millions of Jeep brand fans around the world continue to have a planet to explore, embrace and protect. Electrification is great for our brand, making it even more capable, exciting, sustainable, and fun,” said Jeep brand CEO Christian Meunier.
Electrified Jeep SUV models are already on the market, like the Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe, but these models are just the tip of the iceberg. The Jeep brand is expanding the electrification movement by releasing three new models: the Wagoneer S, the Recon, and the European-specific Avenger.
The New All-New Wagoneer S
The Wagoneer recently made its return in 2022 after a three-decade hiatus and it’s not slowing down. The all-new Wagoneer S BEV balances passenger space with all-terrain capability, making it a great everyday vehicle. This model is projected by FCA to produce 600 horsepower with a 400-mile targeted drive range when fully charged. 1 Balancing family-friendliness and fuel efficiency with fun, the Wagoneer S is expected to go from 0 to 60 in just 3.5 seconds.
The All-New Jeep Recon
A Jeep 4×4 that produces zero emissions? Yes, please. The new Jeep Recon BEV is made for something that was once thought impossible: all-electric off-roading. This battery-powered model will rep an available, official TrailRated® badge, and will include available Selec-Terrain traction management, e-locker axles, underbody protection, and off-roading tires. The Recon will offer the most up to date Uconnect system available which comes with off-road trail travel guides. Its available one-touch power top and removeable doors and glass essentially make the Recon an all-electric-powered sibling to the beloved Jeep Wrangler. This model will be available for reservation in early 2023 with production starting in 2024.
The 4xe Advances On
Let’s not forget about the gas-electric 4xe, Jeep’s electrification pioneer. The Jeep Brand 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) line began with the 2021 Wrangler 4xe, progressed to the Grand Cherokee in 2022, and is making its way to the Wagoneer as well. The successful Wrangler 4xe is already the best-selling PHEV in America2as the Jeep brand continues to expand this impressive hybrid model lineup.
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe
Capability, fuel-efficiency, and classic styling we all know and love – this is the 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. This model uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with two electric motors and a 400-volt battery pack to deliver up to 49 MPGe2. Since it offers three different E-Selec driving modes, you can use gasoline and battery power together, or you can use them separately. For example, save your electric charge for quiet, scenic sightseeing during off-roading adventures.
The 2023 4xe remains available for the four-door Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude trim levels, and is newly available to the four-door Willys trim.
The 2023 Grand Cherokee 4xe
Check out the Grand Cherokee 4xe PHEV lineup. This two-row model offers diverse seating configurations, with an impressive 70.8 cubic-feet max cargo rating. But there’s more to the Grand Cherokee 4xe than interior space alone — it’s also fuel-efficient and powerful. It has an estimated 56 MPGe3 with a 25-mile all-electric driving range, plus, it can tow up to 6,000 pounds4.
For the first time ever, the 2023 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk trim is exclusive to the 4xe powertrain. The 4xe is also available in the following trim levels: 4xe, 30th Anniversary, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims.
